First, ensure that you are on the CSHL internal network - either you are plugged in to an Ethernet port in the wall or on CSHL-WiFi.
You cannot connect to lab printers if you are on the "Guest" WiFi network.
Method 1: Using the Printer Server
If this PC is joined to the CSHL domain (You sign into your Windows PC with your CSHL Username and Password)
Click on the search bar on the bottom left part of your screen and type
\\printer then hit enter on your keyboard.
You should then see a window listing all the printers. Find and select the printer you want to add and double click on it. It will load for a few moments (sometimes around a minute). An empty window (the printer queue) may pop-up afterwards, you can just close it.
The printer is now added to your computer.
Method 2: Using Local TCP/IP
For personal or non domain Windows PC computers
First find the name of the printer you want to use and note the make and model.
You might have to search for the drivers from google.
Open settings and click on Devices

On left pane click on printers and scanners

Uncheck “Let Windows manage my default printer”
Then click on top “Add a printer or scanner”
This will auto search, let finish and click “The printer that I want is not on the list”
The next pop up click “Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname”, click next.

Change device type, drop down to TCP/IP Device.
Enter the printer name which will populate the port name and click next.

You can give the name or leave the default to the model of the printer. Downloading the driver by searching make and model might be necessary.
The printer will be installed, the next screen asks to share. Click Do not share
Click Next,
You can print a test page before clicking Finish.
Then the printer should be connected and ready to go.
