NOTE: Both computers must be on the CSHL network, either connected to the CSHL wifi, a hardwired ethernet connection, or via the Forticlient VPN application
To connect to another Windows computer on the CSHL network, the RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) client is used

1. Type in “mstsc”
2. You will see “remote
desktop connection” on top of your search
3. Press Enter
Type in the name of
your remote computer and press “connect”
Now type in your username (before your username you type
“CSHL\”)
Type in your password
Press OK

When you see a “certificate” pop up, then press “yes”.
When the windows certificate for REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION disappears……then you are connected.
How to end my session in the Remote Desktop?
When done using the remote desktop, there are two ways to step away from it and end it.
1. End it by logging off
2. End it by disconnecting
If you log off your session, all the open windows will close and you free up server resources. This is a good method to use when you are done for the day.
Disconnecting a session, disconnects you and closes your local window to the server. However, it does not close out the windows you have open on the remote server, it keeps them exactly how you left them. This is beneficial if you step away for lunch for example. When you come back you want to continue where you left off. Leaving sessions disconnected overnight is not recommended for cybersecurity.
NOTE: Dual Monitor Issues
If you have 2 monitors on the system you are remoting to and from, there are a few additional instructions necessary
When you open Remote Desktop Connection, click on "Show Options"
Then click on the "Display" tab and check the box "Use all my monitors for the remote session"
Then click back on the "General" tab and continue as above
