Here are the instructions for installing the VPN on Mac (and uninstalling the old version if necessary):

  1. Go to the Applications folder in Finder and uninstall the previous version using the uninstaller.
  2. Once uninstalled, double-click the link to download the new file: https://dropfiles.cshl.edu/link/NbQenxIh66ecC0h4mlGc4c
  3. Open the new version from the link. An installer should open with the Forticlient graphic in the center. Select that.
  4. Follow and accept installation cues.
  5. There should be a pop-up that explains to you that you need to allow Fortitray access. Accept that.
  6. (VERY IMPORTANT) The following step NEEDS to be done for the VPN to work, please look at the step that corresponds to your version of macOS: macOS Monterey or lower: Go into System Preferences –> Security and Privacy. In the General Tab, you will see that it is asking for approval to allow “FortiTray” to load. Unlock it and please allow access. macOS Ventura & Sonoma: Go into System Settings –> Security and Privacy. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see that it is asking for approval to allow “FortiTray” to load. Unlock it and please allow access. macOS Sequoia: Go into System Settings -> General -> Login Items & Extensions -> Network Extensions -> Make sure Fortitray.app is checked
  7. Once it is installed, It should show the badge on the top menu bar, go to that and Open Forticlient Console. It will open up and you have to agree to terms and conditions.
  8. Select "Configure VPN"
  9. Enter the following in the three info bubbles in this order. The rest of the settings stay the same:
    • Connection Name: CSHL
    • Description: CSHL
    • Remote Gateway: vpn.cshl.edu
  10. Press "Save". After this, you should be able to log into FortiClient as you normally do. User name (not full email), and Password.
