1. What is Office 365, and why are we migrating to it? 

Office 365 is a cloud-based subscription service that provides access to Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more. It also includes cloud services like Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams. 

We're migrating to Office 365 to benefit from its cloud-based features, including improved reliability, scalability, and security. 

2. What will happen to my email, contacts, and calendar data during the migration? 

Your email, contacts, and calendar data will be carefully transferred to Office 365. You can expect minimal disruption to your workflow during the process. 

3. How long will the migration process take? 

The duration of the migration process will depend on several factors, including the size of your mailbox data and the complexity of your on-prem Exchange environment.  

We expect your migration to finalize approximately ONE week after your notification. 

4. Will I be able to access my email, contacts, and calendar during the migration? 

Yes, you will have access to your email, contacts, and calendar during the migration. However, there may be temporary service interruptions as we transfer your data. 

5. Will I need new hardware or software to use Office 365? 

No, you will not need new hardware or software to use Office 365. You can access it from any device with an internet connection.

6. What are the security benefits of Office 365? 

Office 365 offers advanced security features to protect your data, including: 

Data encryption: Your data is encrypted both at rest and in transit. 

Malware protection: Microsoft's security team constantly monitors for and protects against malware threats. 

Spam filtering: Robust spam filtering helps keep your inbox clean. 

7. How will I access my Office 365 account? 

We have configured DUO SSO which will allow you to use the same credentials you have used to access your email account(s) 

We will provide be provisioning you with the correct licensing. 

8. What if I have questions or encounter problems during the migration? 

CSHL Helpdesk will be available to assist you throughout the migration process. You can contact them for support or to report any issues. 

9. Will I be able to access my Office 365 account from anywhere in the world? 

Yes, you can access your Office 365 account from anywhere with an internet connection.* 

*As CSHL Cybersecurity initiative evolves there may be a chance some countries may have certain restrictions with data access 

10. Do I need to backup my data? 

CSHL has been and always backing up your data. 

We run a backup of the email system every night consistently.  These backups include all Active CSHL Mailbox Accounts
