Mimecast’s On Hold Messages feature allows users to review and take action on emails that have been temporarily quarantined. These messages are held due to spam detection, policy violations, or suspicious content—but they aren’t deleted. You can view, permit, or reject them, helping ensure that no important communication is missed.

🔐 Step 1: Log in to the Mimecast Personal Portal

📬 Step 2: Access the "On Hold Messages" Section

    1. From the dashboard, select Advanced (three dots).
    2. Select the “Held”or “On Hold Messages”tab from the dashboard
    3. This will open a list of messages that are currently being held and not delivered to your inbox.

🔍 Step 3: Review Message Details

For each message, you’ll see:

Sender email address

Subject line

Date received

Reason held (e.g., spam, suspicious content, policy rule)

Click on a message to view more detailed content, including headers and message body (if allowed by admin settings).

✅ Step 4: Take Action

Next to each message, you can choose:

🛑 ReportFlags the email as spam or phishing and sends the message to Mimecast for further analysis.

👍 ReleaseDelivers the message and allows future emails from the same sender.

👎 RejectPrevents future emails from the sender and deletes the current message.

⚠️ Note: If the message is part of a phishing campaign or looks suspicious, contact IT before releasing it.

🧹 Maintenance & Tips

  • Regularly check your On Hold Messages (if you don’t receive Digest Emails)
  • Avoid over-permitting—only approve senders you trust
  • Be cautious with messages marked as phishing or containing dangerous attachments
  • Contact IT if something critical is being blocked frequently
